Martin McMahon’s Marathon Swim Story
In today’s episode, Marty McMahon recounts his 36 year history of marathon swimming, including all of the “things that can go wrong” – and have, for him.
While Marty jokes that his life peaked in 1985 when his 22 year old self received a heros welcome home after completing the English Channel, but I think there’s a lot more in store for Marty!
I hope you enjoy this episode!
In his own words: Marty McMahon at the age 22 became the 272nd person and 29th American to swim the English Channel. As a young adult he swam around Manhattan Island and across Chesapeake Bay. He then spent 20 plus years raising his two children At age 47 he ramped up his swimming again by swimming across Long Island Sound and from Alcatraz Island.
In 2019 he discovered the Northwest Kingdom of Vermont by swimming the Border Buster in Lake Memphremagog. He is booked for In Search of Memphre for 2022.
Next summer he will make a second attempt at Catalina Island finishing off what is known as the Triple Crown of open water swimming. If successful he will break an old record, the longest time to complete the Triple Crown – 36 years.
Marty has managed the Edward Jones office in Windsor Connecticut for the past 22 years.
