Kim Garbarino’s Marathon Swim Story

In his own words:

Hometown: Winthrop, MA

BLS Experience: Since 2008, 8x Solo Finisher, 6 x Double (1 unofficial, 5 official), 1 x Triple. Team captain for our winning relay team in 2018, which included teh oldest relay Boston Light Relay Swimmer in history, Bob McCormick!

Why BLS? I love the BLS for its rich history and knowing I’ll try to get in every year keeps me training year round

My Crew: My wife Amy and Pilot Bobby Gaff

Fun Fact: At the end of my first BLS ever I was dead last, just trying to get in under the 5 hour time limit. I got grease on my goggles and couldn’t see. My boat pilot and friend, looking at the wrong beach, told me everyone went home so I wasn’t expecting anyone on the beach when I staggered up there. When I lifted my goggles all the people who swam had hung around to the very end and cheered as I crossed the line. This is what makes the Boston Light special.
