Justine Brousseau’s Marathon Swim Story
Justine and I met virtually through an online accountability group that I created as an experiment a few years back. While I saw her on many calls and heard from her periodically I never really felt like I got to know Justine so it was a treat to hear her marathon swim story today!
Best of all her story is one of my favorite kinds of marathon swim stories. Justine didn’t identify as an athlete growing up. Now she’s chipping away at the Triple Crown! I love the idea that Swimming can be a portal to a new identity.
I hope you enjoy Justine’s story!
In her own words:
As a child, I was not into sports at all and was certainly not destined to become an athlete. I led a sedentary lifestyle for many years and it was in my early 30’s that I decided to turn my life around. I started swimming in 2010, through triathlon.
After completing an Ironman in 2014, I realized that while I enjoyed endurance events, I just wanted to skip the cycling and running legs to be able to swim more. So, everything became clear and I decided to focus on marathon swimming.
Since then, I completed many swims including Kingdom Swim, Tremblant Lake Ultraswim, Massawippi double crossing, Catalina Channel, 20 Bridges Manhattan Swim and S.C.A.R Swim Challenge.
I love marathon swimming! I love that I learn something new through each marathon swim. I love being inspired by the swimmers I meet and their stories. I can’t wait to keep learning more through my upcoming swimming adventures!
