Daniel Adcock-Kirsh’s Marathon Swim Story

Hello Marathon Swim Story listeners! It’s been quite a summer, and now has turned fall. My kids are back to school and I’m enjoying crisp morning walks and admiring the changing colors of the leaves. In my swimming I’m taking time to take stock of my stroke and honing my swimming as a practice, more like yoga – working out in other ways.

I had a big swim at the end of August, which I’ll talk more about in a future episode; it was an amazing testament to how far I could go with a solid technique as a foundation. If you’re looking to tune up your stroke as the seasons are changing, I have a 6 week virtual, on demand Freestyle Fundamentals course that will rock your world. I have no doubt that it will make you rethink the way you swim. I’ve seen participants take off as many as 12 seconds off of their 100 time, and they are consistently reducing their strokes per length. If you’ve been looking for a way to swim further, faster, I highly recommend you check it out: Freestyle Fundamentals – Intrepid Water

It’s been so long! I have to say that I’m out practice! I hope that you enjoyed the 2022 Summer Series. While difficult to hear my newbie self at times, it was a delight to listen back to stories from 2020. There are always gems to be discovered in each and every story, and I hope you found the remix to be a fun way to highlight some of them.

In this episode I chatted with Daniel Adcock-Kirsh about his relationship with the water growing up and how we walked away from swimming for many years before deciding to take on the English Channel!

Enjoy!

In his own words:

Married to Tamara, we have two young daughters, Carmen, 6 and Ivy, 3. I work as a litigation solicitor in Manchester, England.

I started swimming when I was 5 years old at the local pool or “baths” as they used to be called in the UK. I progressed to age group swimming and then to county level. I did my first marathon swim age 8.

I stopped swimming at around the age of 16 and then picked it up again in 2017-18 when I started open water swimming with Uswim, a swimming organisation based in Manchester. This ultimately led to me successfully swimming the English Channel in July this year.
