Will Ellis’ Marathon Swim Story

Today I spoke with Will Ellis, host of An Open Water Swimmer’s Podcast. In reflecting on Will’s relationship with the water, we talk about the elasticity of time, managing grief, the elusion of control, and enjoying the journey. We speak in the context of our conversations with guests and reflect on how and why our podcasts came to be.

For me it’s the promise of connection.

Won’t you connect with me? Get out your phone right now. Draft a new email, in the to line, Type Shannon@intrepidwater.com. Tell me what swimming means to you. I can’t wait to hear from you.

I hope you enjoy Wills story.

In his own words:

Will is a British Actor and is the author of the podcast ‘An Open Water Swimmer’s Podcast’ which he put together to remind him and others of their love of swimming during lockdown, when we were not able to swim, and we were all lacking our swimming tribes. It blossomed into something much larger than he ever thought it could be or would go… As a swimmer, will is a competitive pool swimmer (masters distance events) and passionate Open Water swimmer – racing 10km / 5km / 3km events all over the world; and has also raced the 26.5km Lake Zurich Swim (7hrs) and completed a double English Channel relay in 2019 (19hrs 30m). He is swimming the 65km circumnavigation of Jersey in 2023 and has an English Channel solo booked for 2024 raising money for AMAZE (https://justgiving.com/fundraising/williamhellis) which is a charity that helps families with children who have disabilities: his son Odie was born with a condition called ‘Mowat-Wilson Syndrome’ and he lives in Brighton with his wife and dog.
